Specializing in the repair of brass and woodwind instruments for over 15 years, we provide our customers the best in quality repairs. Students, teachers, amateurs, and professionals come to us for regular maintenance or major repairs. The majority of our repairs are done on-site. We guarantee our repairs for 90 days, if you still have the same problem just bring it in and we will take care of it. We want our customers to be happy with the work we do.
Steve Loeb, is the owner of L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc., and repairs all band instruments. He attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois from 1977 to 1979 in pursuit of an education degree. In 1980 he went to Eastern School of Musical Instrument Repair in Irvington, New Jersey. There he achieved a Certificate of Completion in musical instrument repair. Steve is an ongoing member of NAPBIRT (National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians), a professional organization dealing with the repair of band instruments. He has conducted classes and seminars on repairing band instruments. He has provided talks to Montgomery County music teachers, and MMEA (Maryland Music Educators Association), and has been invited to schools to speak with students about his profession, and running a music business.
Scott Baron has been working at L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc. since the fall of 2002 to help with our rental season. He primarily works retail and also has the ability to perform small repairs. He assists in anyway that he can whether it is answering the phone or building a shelf. He is a passionate saxophonist and performs with many local groups.
Mike Burns has been playing sax since he was 8 years old. He graduated from the University of Maryland and also studied brass and woodwind band instrument repair at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City Iowa. He apprenticed with master technician Wayne Sheffield, a repairman for over 40 years, and repaired brass and woodwinds at Sheffield's Music in Sioux City, Iowa. Mike has repaired instruments professionally in McLean, Virginia and started working for L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc. in June 2010. He is our primary saxophone repair technician. As a professional musician, Mike has performed with the Takoma Park and Damascus Community Bands and in many clubs in the DC, MD, and VA area.
Frank Feng started playing clarinet when he was 9 years old in Bejing, China. When he graduated from the Bejing Music College with a masters degree in clarinet performance, he began playing for the Bejing Symphony where he played continously for 27 years. During his time with the Bejing Symphony, he taught clarinet for 20 years. In 1997, Frank moved to the DC area to teach young aspiring clarinetists and to repair woodwind instruments. He taught himself musical instrument repair and came to repair woodwind instruments for L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc. in 2004. He continues to play for his own enjoyment when he is not repairing or teaching.
Dee Dee Lascelle has been working for L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc. since 2001. Prior employment in the retail music industry makes her an invaluable asset in our retail operation. Dee Dee manages the entire inventory in the store. Her primary responsibilities include maintaining, receiving, and ordering merchandise. A graduate of Montgomery County Public Schools, Dee Dee continues playing flute for her own enjoyment.
Jason Ledney has played clarinet and saxophone professionally for over 17 years. He has also played trumpet for over 12 years. Jason has a B.A. in Secondary Music Education from Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). Along with being one of our woodwind instructors, Jason also performs the majority of our brass repairs. He learned most of the profession from Steve Loeb, the owner of L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc. When Jason is not busy teaching or repairing at L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc., he can be found playing with his Ska/Reggae group Sovereign Sound System.
Emilio Montoya did the majority of our single reed repairs. He learned to repair first from his father and then from Steve. Emilio attended the National University in Colombia, South America where he earned a B. A. in Clarinet Performance. He was 1st chair clarinet in the National Symphony Orchestra of South America from 1982-1995. In 1996 Emilio came to Gaithersburg Maryland to work for L & L Music · Wind Shop, Inc. He played clarinet and saxophone professionally as a soloist and with a number of Latin and big bands. Emilio retired from band instrument repair in June 2010 and returned to his home in Colombia, South America. We appreciate everything he did for us and he will continue to be a long time family friend. He visits occassionally and may be found working in our shop when he does.
